Anthropic announced the general availability of the Claude Platform on AWS on May 11, 2026. This is a new offering that enables AWS customers to access the full functionality of the Claude Platform through AWS authentication, billing, and commitment retirement mechanisms. Additionally, the existing use of Claude via Amazon Bedrock, where AWS acts as the data processor, remains available. The most significant feature of this announcement is that new native Claude API features and beta functions will be made available via AWS on the same day as their official release. This allows development teams to continue using their existing AWS credentials and IAM policies as is. The native features provided include Claude Managed Agents (beta) for building and deploying agents at scale; Advisor strategy (beta), which enhances agent intelligence by consulting advisor models; web search and web fetch for retrieving the latest real-world data from the web; and code execution for running Python code within API calls to perform data analysis and visualization. Also included are the Files API (beta) for uploading and referencing documents across conversations, Skills (beta) to teach Claude best practices for consistent results, and the MCP connector (beta) for connecting to any remote MCP server without writing client code. Additionally, prompt caching to reduce costs and latency for recurring contexts, citations to guarantee responses based on source documents, and batch processing for asynchronous handling of large-scale data are also available. In addition, access to the "Claude Console" development environment, which features prompt improvement functions and evaluation tools, will also be provided. The available models are Claude Opus 4.7, Sonnet 4.6, and Haiku 4.5, and support for newly released models will be added sequentially. The service is available in major AWS commercial regions, supporting global and US inference geographies. Anthropic has also clarified the distinction between the use of the Claude Platform on AWS and Claude on Amazon Bedrock. Claude Platform on AWS is operated by Anthropic, and as data is processed outside the AWS boundary, it is suitable for enterprises looking to leverage the full capabilities of the Claude Platform as early as possible. Meanwhile, Claude on Amazon Bedrock is suitable for companies with strict regional data residency requirements or those that need to process data exclusively within AWS infrastructure, as AWS acts as the data processor and all operations are contained within AWS infrastructure boundaries. Customers with existing Bedrock private offers who intend to newly utilize Claude Platform on AWS must contact their Anthropic or AWS account representative before beginning use to ensure that discounts are correctly applied. It should also be noted that discounts cannot be applied retroactively to usage incurred before a private offer on the Claude Platform is accepted.
